family and marriage therapy
|
I want to be a Marriage and Family Therapist- but my degree is in English!? I know, I know, it sounds weird, but I was always interested in the social services field as an undergrad. I was just naturally really good in English and liked the publishing field so I got a degree in it. Now I work for a homeless shelter that also provides mental health treatment and the more I get to interact with people and see the therapists working with them, the more I want to get into Marriage and Family Therapy, which was always an interest of mine. So are there any MFT’s or MFT students out there with advice on how to get more experience? I have great references (my boss here at the shelter and my undergraduate advisor who had me for a class and independent study) but I’m not sure I’ll be that marketable since I really don’t have the clinical experience. Any thoughts would be really appreciated, thanks. With your background, you should be accepted by an M.S.W. program at a university. You then can go on to qualify as an MFT, LC SW, etc. in the state where you want to practice. |
