behavior problems
 Behavior Problems? My younger brother has serious behavior issues. He is very young, 8, and we have tried many methods to make him behave such as loss of priveleges, no allowance, and even spanking. Nothing seems to work and it is driving me crazy having to hear him and my parents fight all the time. He is seeign a counselor, but I don’t think that’s helping him any. What would you do? The best way to combat her bad attitude is by changing the way you and your parents argue with him. No means no. Period. No argument. If No is not good enough then he sits in time out (if he’s 8 years old then for 8 minutes… and never in his bedroom). When he starts raising his voice, do not raise yours. This will only escalate the situation to screaming while also teaching him that when you disagree with someone it’s appropriate to yell. Keep your voice low and loving when you are upset… I know how difficult this may be, but not only does it train your brother not to raise his own voice (this will take time), but it will also help him understand that everything you or your parents do (even punishment) is done because you love him. Consitancy is key. |
